🐾 OUR STORY

About Pinecrest Puppies

Pinecrest Puppies is a small, family-run breeding program nestled in a quiet corner of the country where the mornings smell like pine and the afternoons belong to the dogs. We raise Beagle and Miniature Schnauzer puppies the way we believe they deserve to be raised — inside our home, underfoot, surrounded by people who are genuinely obsessed with them. Our focus is always temperament, health, and making sure every puppy we place is ready, in every way, to thrive in their new family.

The story of Pinecrest starts with a man who had never seriously considered any other breed. Growing up, Dad's family always had Beagles — one curled up at the foot of the bed, one following him down the creek trail, one pressed against his leg during thunderstorms. He didn't think of himself as a "dog person." He thought of himself as a Beagle person.

Mom came to dogs differently. She encountered her first Miniature Schnauzer at a friend's house — a seven-pound firecracker named Otto who decided by the end of the evening that she was his person. She left that night completely undone, did her research, and within a few months had a Miniature Schnauzer of her own.

They met through friends, fell for each other, and eventually had the conversation every two-breed-person eventually has: whose dog was better? Neither of them budged. So they did what made the most sense: they kept both. Pinecrest Puppies grew out of that decision slowly and naturally — two people who loved their dogs, knew their breeds inside and out, and kept getting asked by friends if they knew where to find a good puppy. Eventually the answer became: from us.

Puppies are whelped and raised inside the house, then transitioned into the main living areas as they grow. They hear the television, the oven timer, the front door, the kids' voices. They are handled gently from the first days of life. By the time they go home, they are not startled by the ordinary — they are ready for it. View our available puppies →

🐾 THE BREED

About Beagles

One of the oldest scent hound breeds in the world, the Beagle was documented in England as far back as the 1300s and officially recognized by the AKC in 1885. For much of the twentieth century, Beagles ranked among the most popular breeds in the United States — a distinction earned through genuine, widespread love for what the Beagle actually is: a cheerful, adaptable, people-loving dog that fits into almost any home and almost any life.

Core Personality Traits

  • Scent-Driven Explorer. With around 220 million scent receptors, the Beagle experiences the world through its nose. Curious, enthusiastic, and endlessly engaged — a secure yard and a leash in open areas are non-negotiables.

  • Merry Temperament. The AKC breed standard literally uses the word "merry" — and it fits perfectly. Beagles are happy dogs who greet strangers with curiosity and approach life with an irrepressible, tail-wagging cheerfulness.

  • Intelligent & Independent. Beagles are smart but were bred to work independently. They can seem selectively attentive, especially when a scent is in the air. Positive reinforcement and consistency yield excellent results.

  • Loyal & Pack-Oriented. At their core, Beagles are pack animals who thrive on companionship. A Beagle with people around is a content Beagle. They don't enjoy long stretches alone.

  • Gentle & Patient. Famously tolerant with children, sturdy in build, and rarely aggressive even when startled. They get along well with other dogs and cats, especially when raised alongside them.

Our Beagle family

Few breeds slot as naturally into family life as the Beagle. They are affectionate without being demanding, playful without being destructive, and social enough to welcome anyone who walks through the door. What a well-raised Beagle brings to a home is hard to articulate until you've experienced it — the warmth of a dog that genuinely loves its people, and the steadiness of one equally happy on a hike or curled up on the couch.

🐾 THE BREED

About Miniature Schnauzers

Developed in 19th-century Germany from the Standard Schnauzer, the Miniature was created to retain all of the Standard's working intelligence and toughness in a compact, home-friendly size. The AKC recognized the breed in 1926, and it has been among the most popular terriers in the United States ever since — a record built not on novelty, but on a personality that consistently wins people over for life.

Core Personality Traits

  • Bold & Spirited. The Miniature Schnauzer has absolutely no awareness of its own size. These dogs move through the world with the confidence of something twice their stature — curious, assertive, and utterly unintimidated.

  • Fiercely Loyal. Miniature Schnauzers bond deeply to their families. They pick their people and mean it — wanting to be in whatever room you're in, one eye always on you no matter what else is happening.

  • Sharp Intelligence. One of the more intelligent small breeds, they learn quickly and enjoy mental engagement. Puzzle toys, obedience work, tricks — a Schnauzer thrives when its mind is busy.

  • Alert & Watchful. Originally bred as a farm watchdog, the Miniature Schnauzer still carries that alertness today. With proper training this quality is useful; without it, it can become excessive barking.

  • Affectionate at Home. Behind all that boldness is a dog that genuinely loves to cuddle. Once the day's watch duties are done, a Schnauzer is perfectly happy pressed against your leg on the couch.

The Miniature Schnauzer is one of the most versatile small breeds in existence — genuinely low-shedding, adaptable to apartments and larger homes alike, and patient with children when raised alongside them. A Miniature Schnauzer fills a home in a way that is hard to describe until you've lived with one. They have presence. They have opinions. They make you laugh. And they love you, fully and without reservation, for the entirety of their lives.

🐾 OUR DIFFERENCE

Why We Are Different

Everything at Pinecrest starts with the parent dogs. Our Beagle and Miniature Schnauzer breeding dogs come from carefully selected bloodlines with documented health histories, strong structural conformation, and — most importantly — temperaments we would be comfortable putting in anyone's home. Before any pairing happens, parent dogs are health-tested for conditions relevant to their breed. We do not cut corners on this.

Our socialization practices begin before the puppies even open their eyes. We follow early neurological stimulation protocols in the first two weeks of life, then progressively introduce new surfaces, sounds, people, and experiences as puppies develop. Because Dad is a licensed veterinarian, every litter benefits from on-site medical expertise at every stage — health checks, vaccination schedules, and deworming protocols handled with clinical precision and genuine care.

We also believe that what we do doesn't end the day your puppy goes home. We stay in contact with our families — for questions in those first uncertain weeks, for advice as the puppy grows, and simply to hear how they're doing. If you want to know what that looks like in practice, we encourage you to read what our families say.
